Now that the days are getting shorter, it is so easy to just leave your curtains closed during the winter months. We find that many of our clients at times will just leave all the curtains in their home closed. It is important to note that, that can lead to depression during the “darker months.” Not just with older folks but with all of us.
With many older people at times they don’t bother to open the curtains many days. Though at night closing the curtains does help keep the cold out and is good for security. But when the morning comes along it is important to let the light of life into the home.
Some times in life it is not just the big things we can do each day, but a lot of little things that add up to help make a difference. Light is so important to help change your mood in ways that help to combat depression, it invigorates people to be optimistic and have hope, and to find something good in every day.
Just seeing that there is a big world out there with light, birds and people in it make us all feel part of something bigger, and make us all feel connected.
So open those curtains and let some light in!!!
